The Word Alive - Overdose

SONG REVIEW

The Word Alive - “Overdose”

Following their announcement of Luke Holland's departure, The Word Alive released a new song, “Overdose”, to lift up the fans’ spirits.

“Overdose” is a good song, however, it will take a few listens to grow on you. It also has a few flaws that negatively impacts the production. The overall mix sounds a bit harsh which unfortunately makes each instrument lack clarity. This also caused the song to be more boring in the instrumental side, since the instruments are drowned with fuzz. The vocals also don't stand out much in some parts of the songs.

The lyrics convey the message about losing touch of reality, possibly from drugs since the song is called “Overdose” The drugs will make you feel alive, but in reality, it kills you inside as it flows through your veins. It can also be interpreted as a toxic relationship as well, but listeners will always have their own unique interpretation.

“Overdose” gets a 7 out of 10. It is not The Word Alive's strongest song, and we have definitely heard better, but it's still nice to hear one final song with Luke Holland on the drums. TWA will be playing this song every night on their "The Overdose Tour", so make sure you memorize the lyrics so you can sing your heart out! “Overdose” is also available to purchase on iTunes.
