The Word Alive - “Misery”
Written by: Miguel
The Word Alive combined the elements of “Trapped”, “Made This Way”, and “Dreamer” to create their previously released song, “Overdose”, and now they have released another song, “Misery”, using the same exemplary formula.
“Misery” is quite simple but still powerful at times. It isn’t their best song in terms of the complexity in the instruments, but they were able to capture the atmospheric vibe they were striving for with it’s simplicity. The ambient guitar tone during the verses along with the bass and drums created the perfect balance. The fans may miss the heavier side of The Word Alive but judging from their past material, this slight change is sound was expected.
The lyrics take on a more personal theme to not only the fans, but the band members themselves. It’s about the being in a relationship with someone who disguises themselves as someone they’re truly not and the misery it entails. Like the instruments, the lyrics are also simple but it gets the point across which is all what matters in the end.
Overall, “Misery” gets an 8.5 out of 10. It may not be their best song they have made, but it’s good for what it is. They will be playing this song on all their tours this year so memorize those lyrics so you can sing along! Check out the video down below and let us know your thoughts.
