Sworn In - "Make It Hurt"

Written by Abbey

722 days is a long time to make anyone wait for anything, but Sworn In makes it absolutely worth it. On top of announcing their upcoming album, due out 6/30, they’ve also released a BRAND NEW music video “Make It Hurt”. Trust us when we say, you’re only hurting yourself if you don’t give this video a watch.

The music video takes on love, numbness and pain, or rather the inability to feel anything but pain, not even love or affection. The need for pain and sometimes death is so strong, that he feels it must either be self inflicted or by a lover who will carelessly watch him die, which is represented by the self inflicted wounds in the bed. He can’t feel closeness with others due to the overwhelming desire for death that he feels he deserves. The shots with his reflection in the mirror represent his image on the outside - he’s fine and looks completely normal which contradicts the desire for pain he feels he needs. “I’m fucked in the head that much I’ll admit” is vital, knowing that he is sick but being unable to fix or turn away from it because of how these urges overpower him.

Overall, “Make It Hurt” takes on an interesting angle in a very complicated issue, an angle we don’t often hear. The video receives a 7/10, being creative and enticing while thought provoking and interesting. Be sure to stay on the lookout for their new album “All Smiles” out 6/30 and check out the music video below and let us know what you think!
