Lilac Lungs - Eventide

Album Review

Lilac Lungs - "Eventide"

Written by: Karalynne

Detroit indie powerhouse Lilac Lungs pushes every emotional boundary with their debut full-length album, Eventide. This 10 track album takes listeners on a journey through both their strongest and deepest emotions, and leaves us mesmerized by front woman Emily Torres' spellbinding vocals. With tracks that range from melancholy alternative rock to upbeat and radio-ready pop, Eventide offers something for just about everyone.

In this strong hitting debut, Lilac Lungs manages to fuse heavy synth and smooth indie guitar elements with powerful vocals that are reminiscent of some of the great female vocalists of our time- Amy Lee of Evanescence and Haley Williams of Paramore. The backup vocals are complimentary while also eerily haunting, and add layers of complexity to each track. Having opened for acts such as Emarosa, Slaves, The Orphan, and The Poet, Lilac Lungs proves that their unique sound can fit any audience they encounter.

Vocalist Emily Torres uses the soon to be released album as a lyrical canvas, painting images that dive into the deepest recesses of listeners minds. The lyrics of the album's debut track "Next to Nothing" in particular address that deafening silence we all face at night and the decision we face to fight or embrace it. It is truly a beautiful song laced with darkness.

If you just can't stand to wait for the album's highly anticipated release, and need a dose of these up-and-coming indie rockers, make sure to check out the official music video for "Next to Nothing." The entirety of this catchy and hauntingly beautiful album will be available May 12, 2017 and with a 9/10 star rating, you don't want to miss it.
