Hologram - Crown The Empire

MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW

"Hologram" by Crown The Empire
Written by: Lexie

TODAY, July 15, Crown The Empire released a music video for their song "Hologram," via Rise Records.
This song is absolutely addicting, and will be stuck in your head in no time! The rhythm is great, and the instrumentals are a badass combination of alternative and electronic music. The tone is dynamic, which emphasizes the range of emotions needed to fully evoke the song's deep theme.
Taking the lyrics into consideration, it is clear that the song is about feeling disconnected from reality, and unable to find solid ground. Lyrics that highlight this include the lines "There's a part of me still lost out there, and I just want to know/Am I becoming a hologram?"
This accompanying music video portrays the song's theme in a creative, metaphoric way, following a man dressed as an astronaut. Despite having the suit on, he's still on earth. Though he should (obviously) be able to survive on earth without it, he feels that he isn't able to, thus not being connected to, or a part of, the reality around him. Like a real astronaut would on a foreign planet, our main character curiously explores things from neighborhoods, to the very dirt beneath him. Being an "astronaut," or being a "hologram," represents trying to exist in a life that is unknown and mysterious, or even one that could be easily manipulated.
Overall, the song is great, and the video has an interesting, creative quality. I would easily rate the overall piece an 8 out of 10.
