MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW
"Pain" by Of Mice & Men
Written by: Tori and Kassandra
GUESS WHO’S BACK?! If you said Of Mice & Men, you’d be right! The California metalcore band released their first track & video from the new album entitled ‘Cold World’, set to drop September 9, 2016.
It was evident that the boys are back as men, bringing a heavier mature sound to the table. ‘Pain’ wasn’t only intense, but raw artistic ideas had us on the edge of our seats. Metaphorically, this video can be taken as our lives twisting and turning in ways that are unimaginable- embodying the emotional pain presented within the song displayed through possessed-like women, within the video. This can be seen as pain choking you up and changing you into something you're not, or that pain can be very constrictive.
Artistically, the video displays illusions, frenzied and crazed women to generate the theme of feeling bottled up pain alongside the fuzziness within your mind with the troubles kept inside- the video was very well done! The video is very creative, many different perspectives and opinions are offered in ‘Pain’.
Flashback to the heavy ‘Flood’ days, we see the heaviest side of Of Mice & Men. Lack of clean vocals were no take away but we look forward to the reveal if there will be any on this upcoming album. The title was a dead giveaway to the emotions portrayed and told within the track. Discussing the struggles of stress, unbearable pain, and making a clear statement of being undefeated despite the scars bared, troubles faced, and weighted clouds of anxious feelings overhead- fitting the heavy and weighted theme, complimenting the heaviness in the song itself.
You can catch Of Mice & Men on tour with Marilyn Manson & Slipknot now, so definitely do NOT miss out on that show. "Cold World" is sure to with the hearts of many fans while also forming new die hards. There is something for everyone to enjoy within this single – giving OM&M a solid 8 out of 10 rating. Now.... we anxiously await September 9th for the release of the new album! Who else is ready?
