How many of us have rocked out to big hits like “What's My Age Again?,” “All The Small Things,” and “I Miss You” by the powerhouse Pop punk 90’s band, Blink-182? That’s right, ALL of us. That’s why we’re absolutely positive that you’ll get hit hard with nostalgia as soon as you put on their newest single, “Bored to Death.” Even after the departure of long-time member, Tom DeLonge, Blink-182 hasn’t slowed down. In fact, their newest album, “California,” drops July 1st. These boys have worked hard despite everything that’s happened and they are coming out strong with singles like this one.
Were you bored to death in high school, too? We sure as hell were. The days of being seventeen didn’t last too long and now many of us would give a little of everything to relive those days one more time. This is definitely a track that many people, younger and older can resonate with and find a bit of common ground. It’s good to see how the band has powered forward since the departure of a member, and the addition of Alkaline Trio’s, Matt Skiba.
The real question here is, how much longer can these 40 year old guys keep writing about being teenagers? Sure, it has been their money maker for some time and it’s worked well, but how much longer can they keep up with it? The lyrics and this video coincided with each other, showing clips of the band performing the track live and the lives of teenagers, who are bored to death in school and just want to live a little.
I give this video a 6/10, the song was great and it’s definitely Blink-182’s style, but I think the band could use a little more originality on their topics; something to broaden their horizons and expand their content and fan base
