"Treehouse" by I See Stars

I See Stars have finally released their new album “Treehouse” but only time will tell if it lives up to the expectations that was previously set with their fan favorite “New Demons.”
Many fans were faced with disappointment after knowing of Zach Johnson’s departure from the band and they wondered how well Devin Oliver will fill the former member’s shoes with the screams. Devin proved himself because his screams were great and it held up on its own in the few select songs that showcased this ability. However the overall album took a softer approach. Luke Holland, drummer for The Word Alive, also tracked the drums for the album instead of Andrew Oliver because Andrew moved onto co-vocals and keys for the band - making the album even more unique.
“Running With Scissors” is one of my favorite songs from the album. It gives us a catchy chorus along with some brutal screams creating the perfect balance. “Walking On Gravestones” strayed from ISS’s norm by giving us an electric-instrumental song which was not the strongest point of the album. Mobbin' Out and Portals are some of the heavier songs on “Treehouse” that will be pleasing to the longtime fans of the band. Some of the other songs were heavy as well in terms of the instruments but there was no screaming. Overall the album offers a variety of different sounds from heavy to soft.
“Treehouse” earns itself a 9 out of 10. If you compare it to “New Demons” you may be disappointed but if you see it as a new entity, this album is near perfection. You can stream “Treehouse” on Sumerian Record’s YouTube channel but be sure to support I See Stars by purchasing the album at any music retailer!
